My sessions do tend to take longer than more 'traditional' physiotherapy. The extra time I take during a session, gives us the freedom to go through a detailed history and examination, followed by comprehensive treatment, as well as time to fully explain your condition and answer any questions. On another level, this also permits me to better understand you as a person, your background and expectations, and how these influence your movement choices.

My aim is to find the underlying factors that are contributing to your issue/s and provide you with the tools you need to rediscover easy and effective movement and regain the confidence in your body.

The functional assessment will generally look at things like your:

  • alignment

  • current movement strategies

  • strength

  • mobility

  • biomechanics

  • special tests particular to your complaint

  • functional requirements

It is recommended that you bring a pair of shorts and wear a vest top (if female) to your initial session. A thorough initial assessment is vital to establish a diagnosis, and to determine the impact your problem is having on your life.

Treatment may consist of a number of techniques, depending on the intention...

  • Manual therapy - more so in the initial stages of treatment to promote healing and optimise movement

    • soft tissue massage

    • myofascial release

    • joint mobilisation

    • dry needling (sometimes known as IMS: intramuscular stimulation)

    • taping/bracing

  • "Integrated Learning" - tasks for your work on, specific to your activity/work/sport and in keeping with your individual needs and goals, including:

    • Strength work or joint mobility work if required

    • Muscle patterning/biomechanics

      • initially awareness and activation (specific to your activity/work/sport)

      • integration of new patterns into basic function

      • high level dynamic control

  • Education

You will be provided with a full explanation of your problem with advice on the course of action, and timeframes.
